Proper digestion and absorption of nutrients from food depends partly on adequate stomach acid levels. If you have a habit of eating large meals or not chewing your food thoroughly, it can suppress your stomach acid levels causing bloating, gas, lethargy after meals, heartburn, lack of appetite in the morning and some food intolerances.

Trail Mix Tips

When considering a trail mix, I suggest looking for a high nutrient density or a high ratio of nutrients to calories (more bang for your buck so to speak).

Avoid energy-dense trail mixes that provide lots of calories and sodium, but very little in the way of minerals, antioxidants and essential fats. Read the list of ingredients and avoid products with added fats, sugar and salt.

Fertile Eating

The most comprehensive study to date looking at diet and fertility is the Harvard Nurses’ Health Study that followed over 18,000 women in a long-term research project looking at the effects of diet and other factors on the development of chronic disease.

Chavarro and Willett studied the fertility data from this study in The Fertility Diet (2008) as, during the study, each woman was trying to have a baby. Over eight years of follow-up, the study found that most did get pregnant.

Low Saturated Fats Linked to Better Post Prostate Removal Survival Rates

Men who ate diets low in saturated fat after having the prostate removed to treat cancer had better survival rates, a recent study found.

A study of 390 patients who underwent radical prostatectomy looked at their diets for the next five years. Men who consumed high saturated fat diets were younger and had higher BMIs at diagnosis than men with who consumed
